June 2026
After nine years of organizing efforts by various groups that produced no statewide result, Illinois has passed the most significant rideshare worker protection legislation in state history.
The Illinois Transportation Network Driver Labor Relations Act (HB 5090) gives rideshare drivers the right to organize and collectively bargain for the first time covering wages, benefits, deactivation protections, paid leave, occupational accident insurance, and more.
TNWA 150 and IUOE Local 150 were central to making this happen. Our neutrality agreement with Uber in March 2025 changed the political dynamics in Springfield. Our engagement on the bill language section by section helped ensure the final law delivered real protections rather than watered-down promises.
What’s next: The law takes effect and the card drive begins. TNWA 150 needs authorization cards from 30% of active Illinois drivers to be certified as the exclusive bargaining representative. Once certified, we go to the table within 210 days.
